utism is a genetic disorder affecting 1/500 children, mostly boys. Although autistic disorder clearly runs in families, the genetic cause is unknown. Scientists at Vanderbilt and around the world are searching for genes that might contribute to this disorder. Help from families with children who have autism is the most powerful tool we have in finding a cause and eventually a cure.
