Understanding Function Gene Discovery Patients & Families Clinical Translation

CHGR Mission

The mission of the Center for Human Genetics Reseach is to decipher the genetic basis of rare and common human traits and to integrate this knowledge into the diagnostics, treatments, and preventions of human disease.

Virtually all human traits result from an intricate interplay of multiple genes and environmental factors, and this complexity is reflected in the diversity of our faculty. Our research integrates expertise at the clinical, molecular, and analytical levels represented by faculty in multiple departments and schools. We develop and apply state-of-the-art methods to a large and diverse set of traits including cancer and neurological, cardiovascular, ophthalmological, and endocrine diseases. By providing critical and sophisticated core resources, we have created a supportive atmosphere to aid all faculty at Vanderbilt in achieving our mission to improve health and health care.
